LEGO Marine Chronometer
I've finally managed to get a copy of Rupert T Gould's famous work "The Marine Chronometer" which details the development and workings of the marine chronometers.
Building a replica or something close to a replica of John Harrison's famous time piece that solved the longitude problem is my current project. I've only just started so watch this space! If your interested in working LEGO clocks then check out the links in the side menu. Several people have made very impressive pendulum clocks. For me, at least, this represents the pinnacle of LEGO engineering, the marine chronometer even more so!
So far I haven't really done much in this project. In fact I've hit a slight stumbling block that I've yet to over come. The chronometer relies on springs to perform the backward-forward motion that the pendulum normally does. As yet I haven't managed to make a LEGO spring mechanism.
